MagiKats Fleet opens to meet local demand

Ever since the opening of the first MagiKats maths and English Tuition Centre in Farnham, demand for the programme’s unique blend of helping with school work and the underpinning of core skills has been strong and continued to grow. However, not everyone lives in the Farnham area and so in recent years the network has expanded locally into Mytchett and now into its latest location of Elvetham Heath, in Fleet.

Jan Lomas, originator of the MagiKats programme and Principal of MagiKats in Farnham said, “I have always known that there was demand for MagiKats in more locations on the Surrey/Hampshire border, but I have never been able to find the time to open MagiKats in other locations. However, through our franchising business, we have been really lucky to find an excellent person to take on some of the expansion for us, in the form of Lindsey.”

Lindsey is the latest addition to the ever-expanding MagiKats franchise network, which sees local people open MagiKats Tuition Centres in their area, offering maths and English support to children from pre-school right up to GCSE. When asked why she wanted to open a MagiKats Tuition Centre, Lindsey commented, “Whilst on maternity leave with my son, Leo, I began to re-evaluate what I wanted to do. Like many first time mums, the thought of heading back to work full time filled me with dread and so I decided to look at other options.

“I looked at my career to date and realised that with my management background and the time I had spent mentoring young adults, a new career in education could be just what I was looking for. I had always been interested in running my own business, but taking a franchise seemed like a less scary option. When I came across the MagiKats network, I was impressed by how well established it was in the area and I loved the fact that it is run by a family. It was just the sort of environment I could see myself in and so I was thrilled when they accepted me as a franchisee in the Summer.”

When asked what appealed to her most about the MagiKats programme, Lindsey was clear. “No matter whether it is maths or English,” she said, “the MagiKats programme allows each child to study what they need, when they need it. Also, because we help them develop their thinking skills, problem solving skills and subject skills, children and teenagers across the area can only benefit from the arrival of the MagiKats programme in Fleet.”

Knowing how hard it can be to establish a new business, Lindsey is also planning on combining her leisure interests with her business building. “I enjoy swimming, cycling and take classes at the Hart Leisure Centre. As a new mum, I am also active in various mum and baby groups in the area. If you see me around you had better watch out – I plan on telling everyone I see about MagiKats.”

Lindsey’s workshops are now open at The Key, right by Morrisons on Elvetham Heath, every Monday and Thursday. You can find out more about MagiKats Fleet at www.magikats.co.uk/fleet or call Lindsey on 01252 479045.
